Online Tools for the K-12 Classroom-for Jamestown Staff

There is a wealth of instructional information on the Internet for teachers and students. This workshop will provide a timely insight on using current resources to assist with research and classroom activities.

Major Goal:

Participants will learn how to access and utilize online tools for classroom teachers and students.

Notes:

This training will be held in the Middle School computer lab/classroom.

Participants will:

  • create and use a web-based bookmark manager (iKeepBookmarks, Furl, del.icio.us)
  • conduct basic information searches utilizing the different types of search engines (Google, Yahoo, Yahooligans, Ask for Kids, MetaCrawler)
  • explore online lesson plans and teacher tools (Thinkfinity, A Farmer's Market, Webquests,Trackstar, 4Teachers, QuizStar, RubiStar)
  • explore virtural tours and video (eField Trips, National Geographic, iCue)
  • discuss integrating discovered resources into the curriculum.
