Blackboard Policy

As a strategic partner of the North Dakota University System (NDUS), EduTech provides use of the Blackboard online course management system to North Dakota K-12 schools and organizations. In order to provide the best service and to maintain our partnership with NDUS, we have adopted the following policies regarding distribution of Blackboard accounts and Blackboard courses.

  1. Requests for Blackboard courses may only be submitted by staff members of North Dakota K-12 schools and educational organizations.
  2. All persons receiving Blackboard services via EduTech must have a valid EduTech account.
  3. All persons receiving Blackboard services via EduTech must communicate with the EduTech Help Desk via their SENDIT e-mail address in order to receive support..
  4. All courses are for educational purposes only. No course may be used for commercial purposes by the course creator, instructor, teaching assistants or any of its enrollees. Final determination of whether a course is being used for commercial purposes is up to EduTech staff and may not be appealed.
  5. All Blackboard users receiving service via EduTech are expected to abide by both EduTech and NDUS acceptable use policies (http://www.edutech.nodak.edu/support/policies/aup/ and http://www.ndus.edu/NDUS_Tech_Info/policies/).
  6. Information contained in courses should be considered privileged information for enrolled users only. You may not distribute or make public information located within a course without the consent of the course instructor. Accessing a course you are not enrolled in ("guest access") does not confer the right to share or distribute information contained in that course.
  7. To prevent inappropriate use, the Virtual Classroom feature (also referred to as Virtual Chat or Chat) must be disabled when it is not under the instructor’s direct supervision. The feature may be enabled during times when the use will be monitored by the course instructor and should then be disabled at the end of that session.

To disable the Virtual Classroom

  1. Log into Blackboard (https://bb.edutech.nodak.edu/)
  2. Select the course(s) you are instructing from your course list
  3. Enter the Control Panel
  4. Select Manage Course Menu (lower left)
  5. Select Modify to the right of Communication
  6. Click Unavailable to the right of Collaboration
  7. Scroll down and click the Submit button
  8. Repeat this procedure for all the courses you are instructing

Failure to abide by this policy may result in the suspension or revocation of Blackboard privileges, removal of the course from the Blackboard system, as well as further disciplinary and/or legal action. All course space is the property of EduTech and NDUS. Access to Blackboard is provided to organizations or school district as a service. Final determination of course or account status is up to EduTech staff and may not be appealed.
