Configuring Windows Mail
Configuring an existing account to use SSL
- From the Windows Mail menu, click Tools > Accounts.
- Highlight your SENDIT e-mail account and click Properties.
- Click the Servers tab. At the bottom of this window is a section labeled Outgoing Mail Server. Check the box next to My server requires authentication and click Settings.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server window, make sure the radio button for Use same settings as my incoming mail server is checked. Click OK.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Check the box below Outgoing mail (SMTP) and enter 587 in the field to the right.
- Check the box below Incoming mail (IMAP) and enter 993 in the field to the right.
- Click Apply and then OK.
- Click Close.
- Note: If you are unable to send mail, change Outgoing port from 587 to 25.
Setting up a new account
- From the Windows Mail menu, click Tools > Accounts.
- In the Internet Accounts screen, click Add.
- On the Select Account Type screen, make sure E-mail Account is highlighted and click Next.
- Type in your full name and click Next.
- On the Internet E-mail Address screen, type in your full SENDIT e-mail address (e.g., john.doe@sendit.nodak.edu) and click Next.
- On the Setup E-mail Servers screen, change the incoming e-mail server type to IMAP. Then enter the following information in the appropriate field:
- Incoming Server: imap.sendit.nodak.edu
- Outgoing Server: smtp.sendit.nodak.edu
- Check the box next to Outgoing server requires authentication and click Next.
- On the Internet Mail Login screen, type in your username (e.g., john.doe) and your password. If you want Windows Mail to save your password, check the box next to Remember Password. Click Next.
- On the Congratulations screen click Finish.
- On the Internet Accounts screen make sure your newly created e-mail account is highlighted and click Properties.
- On the Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
- Below Outgoing Mail (SMTP) check the radio button for This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and set the port to 587. Also below the Incoming mail (IMAP) check the radio button for This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and set the port to 993 Then click OK.
- Close the Internet Accounts window and click Yes to refresh your folder list.
