Configuring Entourage
Configuring an existing account to use SSL
- From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
- In the Accounts window that appears, select your SENDIT e-mail account and click Edit.
- In the Edit Account window, make sure the Account Settings tab is selected.
- Under the Receiving mail section, click the button that says Click here for advance receiving options.
- Check the box next to This IMAP services requires a secure connection (SSL)
- Make sure the default IMAP port changes to 993
- Under the Sending mail section, click the button that says Click here for advanced sending options.
- Check the box next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL)
- Check the box next to Override default SMTP port: and enter 587
- Make sure that SMTP server requires authentication and Use same settings as receiving mail server are also checked
- Click OK, and enter your password if prompted.
- Close the Accounts window.
Setting up a new account
- From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
- In the Accounts window that appears, make sure the Mail tab is selected, and click New.
- In the New Account window that appears, change the Account type to IMAP and click OK.
- Note: If you instead see a window labeled Account Setup Assistant, click the button Configure account manually, then continue as described above.
- In the Edit Account window, make sure the Account Settings tab is selected.
- Enter a name for the account (e.g., John Doe’s EduTech Mail) under Account name
- In the Personal information section, enter your full name and e-mail address (e.g., john.doe@sendit.nodak.edu) in the appropriate locations.
- In the Receiving mail section, enter the following information:
- Account ID: Enter your login name (i.e. john.doe)
- IMAP server: imap.sendit.nodak.edu
- Click the advanced receiving options button and select This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL)
- In the Sending mail section, enter the following information:
- SMTP server: smtp.sendit.nodak.edu
- Click the advanced sending options button and select the following options:
- Select SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL)
- Select SMTP server requires authentication
- Make sure Use same settings as receiving mail server is selected
- Select the Advanced tab and uncheck each box in the Special folders section.
- Select the radio buttons Mark messages as deleted and Purge deleted messages when quitting Entourage.
- Click OK, and enter your password if prompted.
- Close the Accounts window.
