Configuring Entourage

Configuring an existing account to use SSL

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  2. In the Accounts window that appears, select your SENDIT e-mail account and click Edit.
  3. In the Edit Account window, make sure the Account Settings tab is selected.
  4. Under the Receiving mail section, click the button that says Click here for advance receiving options.
    • Check the box next to This IMAP services requires a secure connection (SSL)
    • Make sure the default IMAP port changes to 993
  5. Under the Sending mail section, click the button that says Click here for advanced sending options.
    • Check the box next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL)
    • Check the box next to Override default SMTP port: and enter 587
    • Make sure that SMTP server requires authentication and Use same settings as receiving mail server are also checked
  6. Click OK, and enter your password if prompted.
  7. Close the Accounts window.

Setting up a new account

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  2. In the Accounts window that appears, make sure the Mail tab is selected, and click New.
  3. In the New Account window that appears, change the Account type to IMAP and click OK.
    • Note: If you instead see a window labeled Account Setup Assistant, click the button Configure account manually, then continue as described above.
  4. In the Edit Account window, make sure the Account Settings tab is selected.
  5. Enter a name for the account (e.g., John Doe’s EduTech Mail) under Account name
  6. In the Personal information section, enter your full name and e-mail address (e.g., john.doe@sendit.nodak.edu) in the appropriate locations.
  7. In the Receiving mail section, enter the following information:
    • Account ID: Enter your login name (i.e. john.doe)
    • IMAP server: imap.sendit.nodak.edu
    • Click the advanced receiving options button and select This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL)
  8. In the Sending mail section, enter the following information:
    • SMTP server: smtp.sendit.nodak.edu
    • Click the advanced sending options button and select the following options:
      • Select SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL)
      • Select SMTP server requires authentication
      • Make sure Use same settings as receiving mail server is selected
  9. Select the Advanced tab and uncheck each box in the Special folders section.
  10. Select the radio buttons Mark messages as deleted and Purge deleted messages when quitting Entourage.
  11. Click OK, and enter your password if prompted.
  12. Close the Accounts window.
