Options for Mail
Personal Information
You may have multiple identities in EduMail Advanced. This is beneficial if you wear multiple hats within your school. Each identity can have a different e-mail signature as well as other identifying characteristics.
Your default identity:
Select the identity your sent items will appear to come from by default.
Select the identity you want to change:
If you wish to modify the settings or delete an identity, select it from the list.
Identity's name:
You can edit the name for the currently selected identity
Your Reply-to: address
When people reply to your messages from this identity, where should the reply go? By default this is your EduTech e-mail address.
Your alias addresses:
Addresses to explicitly tie to this identity:
These two options can be extremely confusing. Almost no one has any need to change add any addresses here. However, their use is as follows:
Alias addresses are those additional e-mail addresses you may have that deliver to your EduTech e-mail account. If you have changed your EduTech account name, you may have mail sent to John.Doe@sendit.nodak.edu, John.Doe.1@sendit.nodak.edu, etc.… all being delivered to your EduTech e-mail account. This lets EduMail Advanced know that those addresses should be considered 'you' and flagged as though they were sent directly to your EduTech account. Messages sent directly to your EduTech account (or your aliases) are given a 'head' icon in the message list.
If you receive messages that are sent to an e-mail address different than your EduTech account, especially from a Listserv e-mail list or a former name, you can 'tie' that address to a particular identity. Then when you reply to those messages, it appears to come from the specified identity. In this way you can have a specific Signature or reply-to address used when you reply to those messages.
Address to BCC all messages:
You can automatically blind carbon copy other e-mail addresses whenever mail is sent using this particular identity.
Your signature:
An e-mail signature is automatically attached to every message sent. For adults, it is customary for the signature to include your name, title, and contact information (e-mail address, phone, physical address).
Precede your signature with dashes?
Your signature can be preceded by two dashes on their own line to separate it from the content of your message.
Place your signature before replies and forwards?
When forwarding or replying to messages you can decide whether your signature should be above the original message, or at the very end of the message.
Save sent mail?
Sent mail folder:
You may choose to save your sent items from this identity by default. You can also select which folder should be used to store sent mail.
Server and Folder Information
Display Virtual Inbox?
A virtual Inbox automatically shows all new, unread messages, regardless of what folder they exist in. This can be helpful if you have message filters put new messages into folders before they are read.

IMAP folders are the mail folders on EduTech's servers which store your mail. If you do not use IMAP folder subscriptions, you will see everything stored on the server. If you use IMAP folder subscriptions, you can choose to subscribe or unsubscribe to various IMAP folders so they are not visible to EduMail Advanced.

When replying to messages, do you want to include the original message text by default?
When replying/forwarding to a message, should we use the same format as the original message?
Messages can be either plain text or HTML (different fonts, styles etc…). If someone sent a message in plain text, they may have had a good reason for doing so, therefore you can decide whether you would like to reply to or forward that message in the same format.
Default forwarding method:
You may select how you would like to handle forwarded message content. You can:
- Forward the entire message as an attachment
- Forward the body text of the message within your messages content

Messages sent in languages other than English might need special character sets to be visible to the recipient. Most EduTech mail can ignore this setting.
Your default encryption method for sending messages:
EduTech does no provide technical support for encryption methods.
When saving sent-mail, should we save attachment data?
If saving a composed message in a sent-mail folder, determine if all attachment data should be saved. The following options are available:

Request read receipts?
Select to never, ask or always receive notification that your recipient has opened your message. Not all mail clients support or honor this.
Message Viewing
Filter message content for profanity?
As implied, this checkbox enables a scan for profanity in messages you receive. Unfortunately, the scan dictionary is limited and increases the chances that a message may be mistakenly filtered. It is recommended that this box remain unchecked.
Show an icon to allow stripping of attachments from messages?
If you check this box, you will see a trash icon after each attachment when viewing messages. You can click the trash icon to delete the attachment without removing the rest of the message.

Block images in HTML messages unless they are specifically requested?
Turn this option on if you wish to block images displayed within the body of your messages. You will have the option on a message-by-message basis to display images. This is for safety to prevent tracking images embedded in messages from letting spammers know that you have read their message. Note that if you view an HTML attachment, the images will always be displayed.
Automatically show images in HTML messages when the sender is in my address book?
Turn this option on if you wish to automatically show images within the body of your e-mail messages when the sender appears in your address book.
Mark different levels of quoting with different colors?
This helps identify different parts of a conversation when a message has been forwarded/replied to by several people.
Mark simple markup?
Some message writers try to imply formatting in plain text by using _something_ to denote an underlining, /something/ to denote italicizing, and *something* to denote bolding. EduMail Advanced converts the implied formatting to real formatting by underlining, italicizing and bolding the text as appropriate.
Should large blocks of quoted text be shown or hidden by default? It can be toggled easily whichever you choose.
Some forwarded or replied messages can include very large segments of text from the previous messages. You can choose to hide the older text in all messages or only when in threaded view. Whichever you choose, large text blocks can be shown or hidden on a message-by-message basis.
Dim signatures?
Checking this box will subtly hide signatures in received messages allowing you to more easily distinguish between body text and signatures.
Convert textual emoticons into graphical ones?
This will automatically convert commonly known text emoticons, or smileys, to their graphical equivalents. For example :-) becomes ☺
How do you want to display attachments?
You may choose to list attachments below other header information, automatically display them within the message body, if possible, or both.
Additional headers to display when viewing: (optional, enter each header on a new line)
By default, you only see the common headers, To:, From:, CC:, Subject:, Date:, etc… If you would like to view additional header information for received messages, you can enter the additional header titles in this area, one per line, you would like to view by default. Examples include:
- User-Agent: (to view the mail program the sender was using)
- X-EduTech-MailScanner-SpamCheck: (to view the spam score for this particular message)
The default charset for messages with no charset information:
Some mail senders are poorly configured and may send you messages using non-standard character sets without telling EduMail Advanced how to view them.
You may change this setting to attempt to fill in the gap with a default character set to use if one is not provided. Select "Default" to use the MIME defaults.
Where do you want to display links to alternative formats of a message?
When a message is sent in a form other than plain text, for example if it has embedded pictures, special fonts, or colors, etc…, your mail program usually receives several versions of the same message in plain text and HTML. You may choose to view these additional versions of the message above or below the message body, or not at all.

If you leave this box unchecked, you will move to the next message in the message list when you delete, move or copy the currently viewed message. If you check this box you will return to the message list.
What should we do with spam messages after they've been reported as spam or innocent?
You have three options after reporting a message as either spam or innocent:
- Nothing - the message will be reported as either spam or innocent but will otherwise remain unchanged in your mailbox.
- Delete spam messages - if reporting a message as spam, you can have the message be immediately deleted. This setting has no effect on reporting a message as innocent.
- Move spam message to spam folder and innocent message to INBOX - after reporting a message as spam the message will be deleted from the current mailbox and moved to your spam folder. Alternatively, if reporting a message as innocent the message will be deleted from the current mailbox and moved to your INBOX.
Display the "Empty Spam" link in the menubar?
Checking this box displays an extra icon in the EduMail Advanced Mail program menu bar. The Empty Spam function clears out your spam folder, permanently deleting all messages located in it.
