INSTEP
INSTEP prepares teachers to integrate technology in the curriculum and give students tools to enhance their learning.
What is INSTEP?
- Teachers work one-on-one with an EduTech partner to design, modify and integrate a technology-based activity into the existing curriculum.
- The activities focus on using only those technology resources currently available to the teacher.
- The technology-based activity is closely tied to what is currently happening in the classroom rather than being an "add-on" activity.
What will be provided?
An EduTech partner will work closely with the administrator and three teachers to provide the following:
- An introduction to the INSTEP process which will be in a 3-hour videoconference format, most likely after school hours.
Note: Access to h.323 videoconferencing equipment is required
- Meet with each individual teacher for a minimum of 2 hours face-to-face, in their own school to:
- Assist the classroom teacher in the process of identifying technology resources available in their building.
- Provide help with researching opportunities to integrate technologies into their classroom.
- Assist the teachers as they develop a curriculum-related activity.
Note: It is suggested that these activities take place during the regular school day with the administrator providing a single substitute teacher who will rotate to each participating teacher throughout the day.
- Be present to support the teachers as they deliver the curriculum-related activity using instructional technology.
- Additional support will be available via email, telephone and possibly an extra school visit.
Note: The total amount of support will vary among each individual teacher, therefore the type of support will be determined on an as-needed basis.
Cost for the INSTEP program
The cost of the INSTEP program is approximately $300 per teacher with graduate credit available for an additional $75. There is no charge for the administrator.
Note: This cost represents an approximate support time of 16 hours with each individual teacher.
The cost of $300 per participant is minimal considering:
- The amount of time that will be devoted to working on-on-one with each classroom teacher.
- The participant is required to mentor another teacher to develop and implement technology activities in their curriculum.
- Mileage, meals and travel time are included.
- Although the principal is required to participate in the program, there is no charge for the principal.
