EduTech Online Surveys
EduTech Online Surveys give your school district the power to develop professional quality surveys with as little or as much complexity as you require. EduTech uses the Zoomerang survey service to develop and deliver surveys for our own needs and extend this service to you.
With 15 different types of question fields available (most with a number of additional options) you can collect information in a variety of ways. Once collected, this information is available online and as an Excel spreadsheet containing all responses.

Major Options
- Mandatory Question: Any question can be made mandatory (it must be answered to submit the survey).
- Multiple Pages: We recommend a maximum of 10 question fields per page, including heading/image sections. Questions can be broken among multiple pages as necessary.
- Skip Logic: Take respondents to different pages depending on how they answered a particular question.
- E-mail Invitations and Reminders: The survey system can send instructions and hyperlinks to the survey via e-mail. These invitations are unique, allowing you to track responses by individual. You can also send reminders to those who have not completed the survey.
- HTML Markup: Almost any area that can be edited can be marked up with HTML. This allows you to insert graphics, hyperlinks, and modify text properties as necessary.
- Results - Public, Public w/ Password, Private: You can choose to share the results of the survey with respondents in real time (online) as soon as they complete the survey. You may also wish to share results online with a limited number of people by selecting a password, you may also choose to not share results at all.
Question Types
Please view this sample survey to see these question types in action.
- Heading: This type is not a question, but just a section break between questions, in which you can insert a message or instructions in the survey. For example, you may name this heading as a way to introduce the next section of your survey (“Personal Information” or “Second Part”), or as a concluding message (“We greatly appreciate your feedback.”). A maximum of 3500 characters of text can be included in a particular heading section. You can add multiple headings if you need more space.
- Image: This is not a question, but a placeholder to add an image anywhere in your survey (in addition to the survey title area). This allows you to put different images in your survey and then ask questions based upon those images. You can provide a caption for the image, and then place the caption relative to your image. Images must be in GIF or JPG format only. We recommend using images with a file size less than 100KB and a width of less than 450 pixels.
- Choice - One Answer (Bullets): Select this type if you want respondents to choose only one answer from the listed choices. The answers are presented with bullets in a vertical format, one after the other. This type is preferable if you want the respondent to see all the answers at one time, or if you want to include an option for “Other,” which allows respondents to fill in their own answer if they don’t select a listed one. If you use the “Other” option, respondents are limited to 50 characters for their response.
- Choice - One Answer (Drop Down): This is similar to the previous question type in that you seek only one response from a list of options. The answers are presented in a drop-down box, one under the other. Respondents click their choice, which will be the answer remaining when the box is closed. The primary advantage to this type is it takes up less space because of the drop-down box. Answer choices may be a maximum of 50 characters each.
- Choice - Multiple Answers (Bullets): This question type allows respondents to select more than one answer from a list of options. The responses are presented with bullets in a vertical format, one below the other. There’s also an option for “Other,” which allows respondents to fill in their own answer if they don’t select a listed one. The questions usually include a statement: “Please check all that apply.” If you use the “Other” option, respondents are limited to 50 characters for their response.
- Ranking: Zoomerang’s ranking question allows respondents to rank answer prompts in order of preference by selecting a numeric value for each answer prompt. Each numeric value may be used only once. This question type also allows Zoomerang users to include a Don’t Know option if desired. Please limit the number of items to rank to fewer than ten. For more information about how to use the Ranking question, click here.
- Rating Scale - One Answer (Horizontal): This is a useful question type when you want respondents to select a single rating as a response. The rating is a number and you may add labels above each number or above just the extreme numbers, or choose not to add labels at all. The responses are presented side-by-side, which is ideal for comparative-type questions (“How would you rate ..”) and answers, such as “Most improved/ least improved” or “Excellent/poor.” When filling out the answer options, select the number of options and then type in an answer label to correspond with each number.
- Rating Scale - Matrix: Similar to the previous type, respondents are able to rate many listed items in a single question. Select this type when you want answers evaluated across a range or scale, using comparison-type words such as “Most likely/ least likely” or “Completely agree/ completely disagree.” The items to be rated are listed individually and vertically. Number ratings and labels are listed horizontally along the top. To complete the answer options in a survey, choose the number of points in rating scale. In the space next to each number, type in a rating description (poor/excellent, important/not important, etc.). This question type can be transposed to change the rating values to decrease instead of increasing.
- Open Ended - One Line: Select this type when you want the respondent to type in a short response. The open-ended question usually will begin with “Briefly describe” as you are seeking a one or two-word answer. Respondents are limited to 50 characters for their response.
- Open Ended - One or More Lines with Prompt Select this type when you want respondents to type one or two-word answers to a series of related questions. A general question is often divided into separate topics, which appear on multiple lines with the responses. Respondents are limited to 50 characters for their response.
- Open Ended - Comments Box: Select this question when you seek a more thought out, longer response, which will be typed in by the respondent. Respondents are limited to 3500 characters for their response.
- Yes or No: As the name implies, you may offer just the two choices — yes or no — as responses. This question type displays “yes” and “no” on the question buttons, so it is not recommended for non-English surveys. For surveys in languages other than English, we recommend using a Choice – One Answer question type (bullets or drop down) and making the answer choices yes or no in the desired language.
- Name and Address (U.S): Select this type when you seek the Name and Address of the respondent from the United States of America. For more information on this question type, click here.
- Name and Address (General): Select this type when you seek the Name and Address of the respondent from anywhere in the world. This question type also includes email address. For more information on this question type, click here.
- Date and Time: Select this type when you want the respondents to enter the Date and Time of an action.
