Antispyware Shootout
ZDNet Australia recently published a comparison of the eight most popular antispyware programs available for Windows. They did a pretty thorough job, looking at accuracy, management, performance, and effectiveness to form a complete picture of how well these programs work in practice.
If you’re curious, they do make several recommendations in the end, but only one earns the Editor’s Choice label: Symantec Client Security 3.0. While the performance of its full scan was the lowest of the group, Client Security topped the pack in the area of detection, which is the reason it’s being run in the first place. The product also includes AntiVirus scanning, so that’s one possible reason scans take longer than the others. Like everything, there’s a trade-off between speed and completeness.
