Surgical Suite is a multi-point program that connects up to 5 or 6 schools at one time, including an audience at COSI for groups and individuals. Students from each video location across North Dakota had an opportunity to watch and ask questions of the surgeon and medical personnel during the surgery using a round robin, facilitated format.

Prior to the surgery each teacher received a kit of materials to conduct pre- and post-visit activities, along with booklets for the students to use during the program.

Participating North Dakota Schools included Beulah, Bottineau, Elgin, Glenburn, Jamestown and Tioga High Schools. Schools were selected on a first come, first serve basis. Other out of state participants included Shadyside High School in Ohio, Kempner High School and MacArthur High School in Texas and Picture Butte High School in Alberta, Canada.

Conference technical services and facilitation of the live total knee surgery in North Dakota was provided through the collaborative efforts of the Information Technology Department (ITD) and EduTech Education Technology Services.

Adding Resources to Your Library in ActivStudio

As teachers are creating more of their own flipcharts, this question often comes up, "When creating flipcharts in ActivStudio, how do I add some of my favorite images from the shared library into my library?"

Here is the process if using a PC:
1. Open the Shared Resource library and drag the image/resource out onto your flipchart area.
2. Open My Resource Library and drag it into the area where the thumbnail would appear. You should now see that image/resource in your library.

For MAC users:
1. Pull a shared image/resource from Shared Images out onto your flipchart area.
2. Open My Images. Click on image and drag on the Hand icon to move it to My Images.

I would recommend setting up folders in your library before moving images/resources to it.

North Dakota teams to compete in Regional FIRST Robotics Competition March 27-29, 2008

FIRST - FOR INSPIRATION AND RECOGNITION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in a series of competitions designed by a committee of engineers and other professionals. In 1992, the first robotics competition was held in a New Hampshire high school gym, with 28 teams participating in the game, "Maize Craze." Now, the competition involves more than 1,300 teams competing in more than 40 Regional Events, and The Championship held at the Georgia Dome and World Congress Center in Atlanta where more than 8,500 high-school-aged young people participate.
View the web stream on March 27-29 and cheer on our North Dakota teams!

North Dakota schools with teams include:
Hatton-Northwood, Mayville-Portland-CG, Rugby, Cando and Minot

You can view the web stream and find out more about the competition at the Minneapolis Regional site.
