MegaConference Jr.

Have you checked out this "global" event? If you haven't, please read on and check it out!

The fifth annual MegaconferenceJr is a global multipoint that connects students from around the world during a twelve hour virtual conference. Students provide presentations on a variety of topics throughout the day, with “video jockeys” from around the world moderating the events. MegaconferenceJr is a project designed to give students in elementary and secondary schools around the world the opportunity to communicate, collaborate and contribute to each other’s learning in real time, using advanced multi-point video conferencing technology. This year’s Megaconference Jr. event will include participants at over 200 schools from countries around the world. The event runs from 7 am until 7 pm (EDT). The 12 hour duration makes it possible for schools from many time zones to participate during their regular school hours.

In North Dakota, participation will take place by connecting our classrooms to the MegaconferenceJr by h.323 videoconference. Students from across North Dakota will participate in a variety of ways for this year’s event. Hettinger High School has again been selected to serve as one of the VJ teams and their time slot is scheduled for 10:30 – 12:00 CST. A team of NDSU researchers and GraSUS students along with their partner middle school earth science class from last year’s Antarctica research expedition will be presenters for a session between 1:30 -2:30 pm CST. More K12 classes from Williston, Ashley and Rock Lake will be observing various presentations throughout the day.
