2008 Summer Teacher's Institute

Keepers of the Land

June 16–18 2008

The 2008 Summer Teachers' Institute, Keepers of the Land, will be held at the Turtle Mountain Outdoor Learning Center, Lake Metigoshe State Park, June 16–18, 2008. Institute activities will align to portions of the North Dakota Studies Curriculum.

Nationally recognized storyteller Michael Caduto, author of the "Keepers of the Earth" books will be one of the institute presenters. Caduto will do an afternoon workshop of stories, activities and stewardship ideas that are focused on trees and other plants. For an entertaining evening program he will present an inspiring program of stories, music and a group circle dance.

Registration Fee $100.00 payable to EduTech at 415 Winter Show Road SE, Suite 2 Valley City, ND 58072. Workshop fee is applied to graduate credit fees at the university of your choice upon completion:
  • North Dakota State University
  • University of North Dakota
  • Minot State University
Prior to registration, please check to see if your local JPA or school district will reimburse you for your registration fees and remind them the fee includes graduate credit. Note: Registration must be accompanied by payment to reserve a seat. After your registration has been processed, you will receive a confirmation letter via email.
Workshop Materials Each participating teacher will receive a variety of curriculum resources provided by Institute sponsors.
Housing A block of rooms has been reserved at the hotels listed below until June 1st under "Teacher's Summer Institute" at the state rate. Rooms will be released after June 1st.

Meals The coalition will provide dinner meals on Monday and Tuesday evenings, lunch on Tuesday and snacks and beverages for morning and afternoon breaks. Continental breakfast will be available at the hotels.
Dress Casual dress. Workshops and activities will be a combination of indoor/outdoor. Participants are encouraged to bring appropriate rain/shine jackets, shoes and bug repellent.
Optional Participants are encouraged to bring laptops, if available.
Cancellation Policy The Coalition reserves the right to cancel the institute if minimum number of participants is not met by June 9, 2008.
  • The Coalition must receive a written request by June 9, 2008 to receive a full refund, less a $25 processing fee. Telephone cancellations will not be accepted.
  • Confirmed registrants who fail to attend and do not cancel by June 9, 2008 will be charge the entire registration fee.
  • Substitutions will be accepted if authorized in writing by the confirmed registrant by June 9, 2008.

The North Dakota Council on the Arts partners with the North Dakota Teacher Resource Coalition to bring culture and history resources to the K-12 classroom. The primary goal of the Coalition is to provide professional development opportunities that enable educators to expand their content knowledge and provide resources for curriculum planning and development.
