TSW State License to Expire August 2008

The current state-wide license for Technology Solutions that Work (TSW) sponsored by EduTech during the last three years is due to expire the end of August. If you are planning to use TSW resources for curriculum and education technology planning in the upcoming months, we ask that you keep this timeline in mind.

Our TSW license was originally purchased for the first time three years ago based on a request from our K-12 administrators. The advent of NCLB resulted in a need for guidance in choosing scientifically researched technology applications for reinforcement and intervention in core subject areas (most specifically reading and math). TSW is an online database created by The Metiri Group and is the result of collective research by leading educators and technology specialists across the country. In comparison to the Department of Education's What Works Clearinghouse, TSW focuses specifically on technology-based applications.

Our decision to end the license at this time is based on level of use. User statistics and tracking of participants in TSW training across the state during the last three years indicates the majority of those who would find the tool useful have received information and access to the tool. In addition, there have not been recent significant updates to TSW's database. We feel it might be worth it to consider purchasing a license again in a few years after more updates have been made.

Thank you for your interest and use of TSW – we hope it has helped to ease at least some of your tasks in choosing appropriate and effective technology-based applications for your students. Please remember that you are free to use the online train-the-trainer resources on the TSW site between now and August. A brief train-the-trainer session and instructions on accessing the ND license token is all that's needed for you and your staff to access TSW resources. Contact your EduTech Regional ITS or Instructional Services Coordinator Kim Owen to arrange for a training.
