Integrating Games in Education Class to be Offered

EduTech and The Instructional Design and Technology Program at UND are teaming up to offer the course Integrating Games into the Classroom on June 18th and 19th.

This class can be taken as a one day or two day training. Credit can be obtained through UND. If the one day option is chosen, those hours can go toward credit through NDSU via EduTech.

There will be additional fees for a book and software.

This workshop will be held at the Education Building on the UND campus. During his class you will:

  1. Discuss the relevant theories and research which impact the use,
    design, and efficacy of instructional games.

  2. Analyze existing commercial games for their potential adaptation
    for instructional use in K-12 settings.

  3. Design a lesson that makes use of a commercial game for learning.

  4. Design a lesson that makes use of a game development tool for
    in-class curriculum.


The course instructors are Dr. Richard Van Eck and Margaret Meijers.

Richard Van Eck is a tenured Associate Professor and Graduate Director of the Instructional Design & Technology program at the University of North Dakota. He has published and presented extensively in the field of digital game-based learning.

Mrs. Meijers is a classroom teacher and curriculum coordinator for ICT at New Town High School, a government high school for boys in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. She was the 2006 winner of the prestigious Teaching Australia Best National Achievement by a Teacher and is the 2007 winner of the Australian Computer Society Outstanding Teacher award.
